Oh, cookies! What better treat is there? They are timeless and classic and when you think cookie, you think chocolate chip!

If I could only eat one cookie for the rest of my life, it would be a chocolate chip. A warm, chewy chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven. Hopefully, with the chocolate still just a little bit melty.

What makes the cookies chewy?

The ingredients are what make the cookie.

Too much flour can create a dry cookie. If the butter has been melted, it can cause the cookie to be too soggy. How many eggs can affect the structure of the cookie!

Making the perfect chewy cookie is all about balance. You need to find just the right ratio of ingredents.

Chocolate chips or chocolate chunks?

You can use either for them recipe but I am using larger, cut up pieces of a chocolate bar to make chocolate chunks! Who doesn’t want a little extra chocolate in their cookie?

What You Need to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Flour
  • Butter, at room temperature
  • Baking Soda
  • Brown Sugar
  • Salt
  • White Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Egg
  • Egg Yolk
  • Chocolate Chips

How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies

Start by preheating your oven to 375°F and lining a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon baking sheet.

In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. This helps to break down any clumps and makes for a fluffier cookie.

In a second bowl or, cream together the sugars and room temperature butter using a hand mixer. You could also use a stand mixer for this project.

Add in the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter and sugars and turn your mixer to a low speed.

Add the dry ingredient into the wet ingredients and mix together until the batter is tacky, but not sticky and can shape easily into balls.

Remove your batter from the mixer and shape the dough into even, roughly 1″ balls and line them on your baking sheet. Make sure to leave enough space in between the balls. When the cookies bake, they will spread, leaving space will avoid the cookies from sticking together.

Place the baking sheet into the oven and bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes.

The cookies will still be very soft when they are removed from the oven. Allow them to cool slightly before removing them from the baking sheet and serving.
