Homemade Facial Toner with Mint and Lavender

Making your own homemade facial toner is simple and can be done with just a few inexpensive ingredients!

It’s getting to that part of the year where I am harvesting many herbs from my garden to refresh all of my homemade beauty products. I have replaced many conventional beauty products with my own DIY versions. Body scrubs, soaps, lotions, dry shampoo and facial toner.

There are so many wonderful herbs that can benefit our skin care routine if we just opt to use them instead.

Why Should You Use Toners

Toners have many benefits to your beauty and skin care regime. Facial toners are used to remove any extra dirt, make up or soap scum that may be continuing to clog your pores. Clogged pores can cause skin irritations as well as stubborn acne!

Adding a toner to your morning and nightly skin care can make your skin feel clean and refreshed.

Ingredients You Need to Make a Facial Toner

Witch Hazel

Apple Cider Vinegar

Lavender

Mint

Water

*This recipe works with fresh or dried herbs.

How to Make a Homemade Facial Toner

Start off by measuring your ingredients. You will need 1/2 cup of witch hazel and 1/2 of a cup of apple cider vinegar and water.

Clip and wash a few sprigs of fresh lavender and mint and add them into your jar. If you are using dried herbs, add 1 tablespoon of mint and 1/2 tablespoon of lavender.

Pour the wet ingredients into the jar with the herbs and close the lid.

Allow the herbs to steep in the liquid for 2 weeks and then strain the herbs out of the toner and into a fresh jar, or my favourite, a soap pump.

You can also add a few drops of your favourite essential oils at this point if the apple cider vinegar scent is too strong. I use Tea Tree Oil for it’s healthy skin benefits and a few small drops of Grapefruit Oil for a fresh scent!

Use your toner every morning and night as part of your cleansing routine.

How to Use Homemade Toners

You can use a homemade toner exactly like one you would purchase from a store.

After washing your face, pump 2 to 3 squirts of the toner onto a reusable cotton pad and gently wipe your face, neck and chest to remove any dirt or impurities.
