Homemade dryer ball spray is just what you need for your all natural laundry regime!

When switching to a more natural laundry regime, you may start off by missing the scents that are infused into commercial laundry products. The lavender and rainforest smell and the “clean linen” scent that really only exists in can form. I get it. I’ve been there.
A few years ago, we stopped using dryer sheets and fabric softener from the store all together. The reason? The commercial fabric softener was wreaking havoc on our skin. Especially on our newborn’s baby soft skin. We developed welts and rashes that would not go away. My psoriasis was especially bad during this time!
After a process of elimination, we deduced that it was the fabric softener that was the culprit.
This is what led me to research homemade laundry options like fabric softener (vinegar does the job all on it’s own!) and wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. But I was still missing that ‘fresh out of the dryer’ scent…
Why you should make the switch from dryer sheets to a homemade alternative
If I cannot convince you of any other reason to make the switch, the biggest take away I want you to get is that dryer balls are just more efficient and effective when it comes to your dryer. Dryer balls reduce the overall drying time of your cycles and they are reusable for up to 100 cycles, longer if you recharge them!
Commercial dryer sheets work by emitting heavy and toxic chemicals into your laundry during the drying cycle, which is what makes your clothing soft, static free and heavily scented. And then, they are immediately discarded.
Dryer sheets are made from polyester which is a non-biodegradable substance meaning that those single use dryer sheets will go on to exist on our planet forever.
How do you make spray for wool dryer balls?
Making your own homemade dryer ball spray is easy! All you will need is a spray bottle, distilled water, witch hazel and a few choice essential oils.
In a measuring cup, measure out half a cup of witch hazel and half a cup of water and then add it into your spray bottle. Next, add in your essential oils.
Screw the sprayer back down onto the bottle, give it a good shake and use on your dryer balls when needed.
How to use dryer ball spray
After transferring your clothing from the washing machine and into the dryer, spray 1 to 2 pumps onto each dryer ball.
You may use as much or as little spray as you would like, just remember that the more spray that you use, the stronger the scent will be.
During the drying cycle, the moisture will evaporate and infuse your laundry with whatever delicious and natural scent that you have chosen.
