Homemade grab and go snacks can be hard to get the hang of. Making granola bars from scratch are delicious but if you’re short on time, they might not be the most convenient thing to make over and over.

I like homemade snacks that are healthy, but still tasty, and that can be made in a big batch so I can grab in a pinch without thinking about it.

Snacking on nuts is something that is newer to me. Until I tried making my own spiced nuts, I had no idea how delicious they could be!

I love that these can be made in a large batch and be given as gifts during the holidays. You can pack them into lunches and they make the perfect late night snack while you’re binging a series on Netflix.

What type of nuts do you need for spiced nuts

You can use any of your favorite nuts to make a tasty batch of sweet and salty spiced nuts.

Peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, brazil nuts and cashews are a popular blend of nuts that lend themselves well to this recipe.

You can use as much of a blend or just one or two varieties as you’d like.

What you need to make sweet and salty spiced nuts

Nuts

Egg whites

Sugar

Salt

How to make sweet and salty spiced nuts

Start by preheating your oven to 300°F and then lining a rimmed baking sheet with a reusable liner or parchment paper.

Crack an egg into a medium sized mixing bowl and separate out the yolk. Use an electric whisk to whisk the egg white until it begins to form stiff peaks.

Add the nuts into the egg whites and then add in the salt and sugar.

Use a spoon or rubber spatula to combine all the ingredients.

Spread the nuts evenly onto the baking sheet and then place into the oven.

Bake the nuts for 40 minutes, stirring about halfway through.

Remove the nuts from the oven when they are finished baking and allow them to cool fully before serving.

Yield: 3 cups
