Making your own mayonnaise is a simple process that quite literally will take only 1 minute out of your day. We love making our own mayonnaise on the homestead and use it in many things, like our homemade taco sauce, dressings, sandwich spreads and even as something to dip french fries in.

Is it worth it to make your own mayonnaise

Yes!

Making your own mayonnaise makes much more sense than buying it from the grocery store. It is a great place for the budding from-scratch home chef to begin.

It is much more flavorful than store bought.

Most people keep all the ingredients you need to make mayo on hand already! Why not jump in and give homemade mayonnaise a try?

What you need to make homemade mayonnaise

Homemade mayonnaise is made up of just a few ingredients. All you need is:

Eggs

A very light, neutral oil like avocado or canola oil.

Mustard

Lemon Juice

Salt

You will also need a food processor. I love this one!

How to make homemade mayonnaise

Add the eggs, mustard, lemon juice and salt into the basin of the food processor.

Add 2 tablespoons of the oil and then place the lid on the food processor and begin to process.

Slowly pour in the oil while the mayonnaise is processing. As you are slowly adding in the oil, you will begin to see the oil and egg emulsify into that familiar texture of mayonnaise.

When your mayonnaise has thickened and is no longer runny, your mayo is ready to use!

How to store your mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is stored best in the refrigerator and can last for up to 2 weeks.
