Learn how to make an all-purpose cleaning spray for your surfaces without the sticky residue left behind by orange and lemon peels!
Homemade cleaners are often the first swap that most people make when beginning their journey to a more natural home. No longer purchasing cleaners with heavy chemicals and opting for natural ingredients to make your own cleaners is not only healthier for your home but it is often more economical!
Vinegar is the base ingredient of all natural cleaners and for good reason! Vinegar is great for fighting grease and has the ability to kill many germs and viruses that may be living on your surfaces.
Why You Shouldn’t Use Orange Peels in Your Homemade Cleaners
When you search for homemade cleaners, you will be met with hundreds of recipes and most will have orange or lemon peels listed in the ingredients. There isn’t anything wrong with using oranges or lemons or anything else to scent your homemade vinegar cleaners but I have personally found that using peels in my cleaners tends to leave my surfaces with an unpleasant sticky residue.
Besides the scent, the peels don’t have any added benefits. In fact, they can actually cause your cleaner to spoil quickly and become unusable!
What You Need to Make An All-Purpose Cleaning Spray
To make all-purpose cleaning spray, you will need:
- Spray Bottle
- White Vinegar
- Filtered Water
- Clove and Lemon Essential Oils
How to Make The Cleaning Spray
Begin by boiling your water in a kettle or on the stove in a small sauce pot. When the water has boiled, remove it from heat and allow it to come to room temperature before moving on to the next steps.
Use a small funnel to add the vinegar and essential oils into a spray bottle. Next, add in the water.
When all of the ingredients are in the spray bottle, secure the lid and give the bottle a good shake to combine all of the ingredients.
To use your spray, spray bottle directly onto the surface or cloth and use the cloth to wipe down the desired surface.
Things to Keep in Mind About Homemade Cleaning Products
It is important to keep in mind that homemade cleaners are not the same as storebought cleaners. They are not intended to be made in large quantaties and do not have the added chemicals and preservatives that you will find in conventional cleaners. This means that the shelf life of homemade cleaners is much shorter than those found on the shelves at the grocery store.
