Say goodbye to store bought cleaners and make yourself some of these zero-waste disinfectant wipes!
In another life, I was addicted to cleaners. I went through bottles and bottles of harsh chemicals on a weekly basis. It’s embarassing to look back and not only see how much waste I was creating but also see how many chemicals I was pouring onto our surfaces.
Once I saw the error of my ways, I took it upon myself to start creating all my own cleaners.
An item that I used to use more than anything were disinfectant wipes. With a family of 5 and lots of pets, I could easily go through an entire container in one day!
I could still do that but now that I make my own Reusable Disinfecting Wipes, the waste, the chemicals and not to mention the cost has drastically decreased.
What You Need to Make Reusable Disinfecting Wipes
- Unpaper Towels or cuts of cloth
- Vinegar
- Isopropyl Alcohol or unflavored vodka
- Boiling Water
- Lemon Essential Oil
- Tea Tree Essential Oil
- Glass jar or other storage container
How to Make Reusable Disinfecting Wipes
Start of by making sure that whatever you plan to store your wipes in is clean. I like to store mine in a large mason jar. Add all of your unpaper towels into the jar.
Start boiling water in a kettle or pot on the stove.
In a glass measuring cup, add together your vinegar and alcohol. Combine them together and add in your essential oils. When your water has finished boiling, you can then add that to the measuring cup as well.
Pour the vinegar, alcohol and oil into your jar with your unpaper towels and close the lid. Give the jar a shake.
Once the majority of the liquid has been absorbed by the cloths, your wipes are ready to use!
Why Should You Use Reusable Disinfecting Wipes?
Reusable wipes are a great way to cut down on the harmful, toxic chemicals in your home. They are also a great way to reduce the waste that you produce.
Disposable wipes end up in landfills or in the waterways. They can take over 100 years to fully break down! With over 1 billion wipes being thrown away daily, that is a lot of wipes building up on our planet.
With reusable wipes, once used, you can wash them and simply add them back into the jar with your other reusable wipes. Creating zero waste in your home.
