Venison Steak Tacos with Avocado Ranch Dressing

These easy, venison steak tacos with a avocado ranch dressing make a quick dinner that your whole family will enjoy!

It is that time of year where we need to start empying the freezer to get ready for the next season of harvesting and preserving. This means finding ways to use some of the cuts of meat that we don’t eat much.

One of those things is venison steaks. Steak is not something that we cook or eat often. So when I do cook it, I like to try new and creative ways to make it taste great besides just grilling this huge chunk of meat and putting it on a plate.

We love tacos here but sometimes they can get a bit boring when we repeat the same combinations. That is how I came up with this recipe!

What You Need to Make Venison Steak Tacos

  • 2 venison steaks
  • Corn tortialls
  • Jalapenos
  • Cilantrao
  • White Onion
  • Queso Cheese
  • Avocado
  • Ranch Dressing
  • Lime
  • Chili Powder
  • Salt
  • Garlic
  • Olive Oil

For this recipe you will need a ranch dressing. I use a homemade buttermilk ranch, recipe to come, but your favourite ranch dressing will do the trick!

How to Make Venison Steak Tacos

I like to start by getting my steak into a marinade. It is best to let the venison steaks sit in the marinade for 24 to 48 hours, but if you are short on time, an hour or two will do just fine.

Shave your steak into thin strips and place them into a bowl.

In the bowl, add 1 tbsp of olive oil, 2 tbsp of chili powder, 1 1/2 tsp of salt and 4 cloves of crushed garlic. Massage those ingredients into your steaks using your hand or combine them with a spatula.

Cover the bowl and place into the fridge to rest.

While the steak is marinating, you can begin the prep your other ingredients and make the Avocado Ranch Dressing.

In a wide mouth mason jar, use a stick blender to mix 1 cup of ranch dressing and one whole avocado. When the avocado is smooth, add in a drizzle of fresh lime juice and a 1 tsp of salt. Mix until all the ingredients are fully combined and the dressing is smooth. Store in fridge until ready to serve.

When the steaks are ready to cook, remove them from the fridge. Bring a large cast iron skillet up to temperature over high heat.

Add your steak strips to the skillet, pour 1/2 to 1 full cup of water to the skillet to prevent the steaks from becoming too tough.

Cook your steaks for 5 to 10 minutes or until they are fully browned on the outside.

While your steaks are cooking, heat up your corn tortillas inside the oven or toast them on a cast iron skillet.

Place your steak strips inside the taco shell and top with onion, cilantro, jalapenos and the Avocado Ranch dressing and enjoy!

Notes

  • If venison is not your preference when it comes to meat, you can always substitute for beef.
